The Convention made headlines in the leading newspaper in Karnataka and was also covered by the electronic media. The Convention started by reading the message and blessings of Shri Shri Shri Shri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji. Dr. K. P. Puturaya, well known writer and educationist was the Chief Guest. Freedom Fighter Smt. Kulibidu Bhagirathi Shastri inaugurated the convention by lighting the lamp. Shri Vishveshwar Hegde, Kageri, Dr. M.P. Karki, Shri Shantaram Hegde, President, T.S.S., Dr. (Smt.) Yashoda Bhat & Dr. (Smt.) Shalini Raghunath and Smt. Ganapi M. Bhat, Tatike graced the inaugural function. There were about 24 speakers from all around the world, whose list included doctors, literatures, social workers and experts from different fields. Various issues relating to women were discussed. Need to preserve our cultural values was emphasized. At the same time, it was also agreed upon that certain age old usages, which cause mental agony to Havyaka women, need to be re-examined. There was also a variety entertainment programme by Havyaka girls and women and their wonderful performances were applauded by all. About 1500 persons attended the convention. The function was concluded with the Ashirvachan of His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Mahaswamiji. A souvenir was also released from his Holiness on the occasion. ‘Havyaka Women World Convention’ was unique and widely appreciated.
Havyaka Women World Convention aimed at bringing Havyakas all over the World under common platform to address the problems faced by Havyaka community in general and Havyaka Women in particular. The discussions held in the Convention focused on different issues concerning women, examined causes and sought the remedies. Fund was raised through donations and advertisements through Souvenir and after deducting the expenses of the convention, is earmarked for giving educational and medical aid to Havyaka girls and women.
